2016 Ben’s Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team Looks for Big Success, Big Fun

The Ben's Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team for 2016.

The Ben’s Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team for 2016.

The Ben’s Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team has a very strong roster for 2016, including several state champions in mountain biking and cyclocross and two cyclocross riders who finished top 10 in the cyclocross nationals in 2015.

We had a great year in 2015. We stood on the podium for the Wisconsin state championships in several events in cyclocross and mountain biking. We traveled to Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, across Wisconsin, and other places to ride our bikes.

As a team, we won the Wisconsin Cyclocross SuperCup Team Series, quite an accomplishment for a small, loosely organized team!

And we helped many people try mountain biking and cyclocross for the first time, and helped others improve their cycling skills!

Most importantly, though, we had a lot of fun along the way. We are not a team all about results. We are all about the journey; the bike becomes the tool to build new friendships, gain new experiences, and discover strength in ourselves we didn’t know we had.

Ben’s Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team has Great Partners

We are honored to represent Ben’s Cycle in Milwaukee, a full-service bike shop that’s been family-owned and operated since 1928. And many of us ride on Milwaukee Bicycle Co. bicycles, produced by Ben’s Cycle, including the Grit and Feral mountain bikes and Mettle cyclocross bikes.

We also partner with:

  • The Milwaukee Brewing Co, which provides great beers for the team to bring to events, making us a very popular team!
  • Valentine Coffee Roasters, which provides outstanding coffee for the team to bring to events and sample, again making us the popular team!
  • WMSE Radio in Milwaukee, which provides radio support, promotion, and a whole lot of fun.
  • August Social Media, a local social media agency that works with small businesses.

Here is your 2016 Ben’s Cycle/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Cycling Team Roster! Each rider answered a few questions, gave us their favorite type of riding, told us their job and their residence.

  • Favorite Type of Cycling? Mountain biking.
  • Most Epic Ride? I was riding mountain bikes up in Hayward in November one year. I was way out of town on the Birkie trails when it started to snow. The trails were awesome, so I didn’t want to come home. I’m a little stubborn like that. But when the snow started to pile up, I decided to turn around. Soon the snow got so thick I could barely pedal the bikes. I was able to use zip ties to tie small sticks to my wheels to bite into the snow and get home.

  • How Long Have You Been Riding? Long enough to get addicted
  • Favorite Type of Cycling? EVERYTHING!!
  • Most Epic Ride? There are so many to pick from but the one that has been the most challenging, insane and fun is the “2015/2016 Milwaukee Bike Collective Winter Bike Challenge”. The WBC is not about speed or distance but getting you out on your bike during the harshest, most depressing time of the year- winter in Wisconsin! I’ve done everything from ride my bike in negative temperatures to creating a snow angel that looks like it’s riding my bike to pedaling through an unplowed street with six inches of snow! It’s not just one ride but a series of challenges over a five-month period and it has brought my love of cycling to a whole new level! http://bikecollective.bike/winterbikechallenge/
  • Number of Bikes You Currently Own? Never enough
  • Favorite Bike to Ride? It kind of depends on my mood. For performance and long road rides it’s my Trek Madone 5.2 WSD. But if I’m feeling “girly” and want to cruise around the city in a sundress, it’s my dutch style Trek Cocoa Bike. The bike I dream about loving to ride is a sweet Milwaukee Bicycle Company Mettle cyclocross bike that I’m saving my hard earned dollars for!
  • Favorite Destination in Milwaukee? There are several but I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the city by bike and my “classic” route is usually something north along the lake, with a stop of Beach Drive for hill repeats and then continuing north/west for a coffee (or beer) stop in Delafield and making my way back through River Hills. Lots of beautiful terrain, tree-lined streets are good roads for riding. Now I wish I was out riding!
  • What Keeps You Riding? A great way to clear my head and enjoy feeling like a kid again. Cycling can be very independent but also super social which I love. It gives me a good balance for my busy life.
  • Favorite Valentine Coffee? Bali Blue Moon. I really like the richness and earthiness of this unique coffee grown in volcanic soil in Indonesia. Nice pop to it!
  • Favorite Milwaukee Brewing Beer? Outboard.  It’s such a refreshing beer and this is what I crave after a long, hot ride on my bike. Slightly hoppy with a nice clean, citrusy taste.
